La indumentaria del Muay thai en la actualidad consiste en pantalones cortos y vendaje en manos, pies y espinillas como única protección (estas ultimas son para peleas amateur), el uso de guantes fue introducido en el año de 1929 por un boxeador filipino y se volvió obligatorio, así como el protector bucal y la división por pesos a partir de 1945. Cuando los contrincantes ingresan al ring, tradicionalmente se les ve utilizando un Mongkon sobre su cabeza y un Pong Malai alrededor del cuello. El Mongkon es una banda especial entretejida cuidadosamente que representa al gimnasio del cual provienen. Pong Malai son collares con ornamentos florales, entregados por amigos y seguidores como un gesto de apoyo y buena suerte, similares al Lei hawaiano. El mismo propósito tienen los Papriachat(amuletos de buena suerte), que son lazos utilizados alrededor del bíceps, regalados por familiares cercanos. El thai boxer comienza entonces un complejo ritual a manera de danza llamado Wai khru ram muay donde se imita diversos animales o profesiones, el Wai khru ram muay tiene como objetivo el poner en movimiento la mayor cantidad de músculos posible y ayudar a enfocar la mente.

El sábado 29 de marzo a las 15 Hs., en el Parque Martín Fierro ( Oruro 1300 Capital), se realizará el primer seminario teórico-practico de Muay Thai tradicional dictado por el maestro Somboon de la provincia de Suratani, Thailandia. El seminario tendrá una duración aproximada de cuatro horas. Estará apuntado a los practicantes de todas las artes marciales en general donde se verán todas las tecnicas del muay thai y las diferecias con el resto de las artes marciales. Entrada libre y gratuita. Envia tus datos para el ingreso.

Finalizado el seminario a las 19 Hs. y en el mismo lugar del Parque Martin Fierro. (Oruro 1300 Capital) , habrá exhibiciones de Muay Thai y Muay Boran realizadas por competidores tailandeses quienes demostrarán el estilo tradicional tailandes. Al evento, se sumará la colaboración del maestro Miguel Carpinacci quien junto a alguno de sus alumnos de MTA harán una serie de demostraciones sobre el ring.
