El intérprete era conocido por sus papeles en series importantes como 'Deadwood', 'Agentes de SHIELD' y en películas como 'Sin City', 'Nixon' o 'Tombstone'.

Booth comenzó su carrera en el teatro, aunque rápidamente dio el gran salto al cine y a la televisión. En la pantalla grande interpretó a grandes personajes, entre los que destaca el senador Roark en 'Sin City' y en su secuela 'Sin City: Una dama por la que matar'. En cuanto a la televisión, su papel en la serie 'Deadwood' le otorgó fama, interpretando al dueño del salón Cy Tolliver. También fue el Vicepresidente Daniels en la serie '24', el juez Wall Hatfield en 'Hatfields and McCoys' y el ex alcalde Lamar Wyatt en 26 episodios de 'Nashville'.

En 1980, Boothe ganó el Emmy a mejor actor en una miniserie o telefilm por interpretar al infame profeta Jim Jones en 'La tragedia de Guyana'. Según informa su representante, se celebrará un funeral privado en Texas, donde el actor nació, y se está considerando realizar una celebración conmemorativa en su honor en una fecha futura.

Twitter fue el lugar escogido por muchos, que quisieron darle unas últimas palabras al veterano actor. Entre ellos, podemos ver a Robert Rodriguez, que dirigió a Boothe en 'Sin City', o Lea Thompson, que fue su compañera en 'Amanecer rojo'.
